Best Photoshoot Locations in Southern Ontario (Cambridge, Elora, Waterloo + More)

As a photographer, I can truly create beautiful photos almost anywhere — a simple wall, an open field, or even a quiet street can become the perfect backdrop with the right angles and light. But when you choose a stunning location, it adds real production value to your session. It creates a memorable atmosphere, gives your photos more variety, and allows me to focus even more on what matters most: you.

These are some of my personal favourite photoshoot locations in Southern Ontario, including Cambridge, Waterloo, Elora and Erin. They’re perfect for engagement sessions, branding shoots, and portrait photography, especially if you want your photos to feel unique, elevated, and unforgettable.

1. Downtown Cambrige

Downtown Cambridge is one of those places that instantly pulls you into a completely different world. I spent a lot of time in Europe, and every time I photograph here, I get the same feeling — like I’m walking through one of my favourite cities overseas.

The river, the bridges, and the tall church clock towers remind me so much of Zurich, Switzerland. There’s something about crossing those bridges that feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is calm, romantic and full of character.

One of my favourite things about this area is the architecture. Downtown Cambridge has so many beautiful historic stone buildings, and they give the photos such a timeless look. When you’re just walking through the streets, it feels like every corner has texture, history and a story.

What makes Cambridge even better is the variety. It’s not only vintage and historic — there are also modern, futuristic-looking buildings nearby that create a totally different vibe. So in one session, you can get romantic old-world backdrops, sleek modern city shots and even nature-filled images along the river where it almost feels like you’re in the forest.

If you want a destination that feels like Europe without leaving Ontario, Downtown Cambridge is one of my top picks.

2. Waterloo Park

I discovered Waterloo Park during a family trip. We were simply looking for a park where the kids could take a break and run around — and I was honestly blown away by how beautiful this place is. What makes it so special is how many different styles and backdrops you can get within such a short walking distance.

One of the main highlights is Silver Lake, which gives you gorgeous water reflections and peaceful nature scenery right in the heart of the city. Along the lake, there’s also a beautiful boardwalk-style path, which is perfect for romantic walking photos, candid moments, and portraits that feel natural and effortless.

And then there’s the real showstopper — the Perimeter Institute building. Its black and gold architectural design looks futuristic, bold, and incredibly unique for photos. When the building reflects in the water, it creates an editorial vibe that you don’t normally find in a park setting.

What I love about Waterloo Park is the variety: you can capture soft nature portraits, modern city-style shots, reflections by the lake, bridges, train track and unique architectural backdrops — all in one session without needing to drive anywhere else.

3. Elora (Historical Downtown + Elora Gorge)

Elora is honestly one of my favourite historic towns to visit in Southern Ontario. It’s a gorgeous tourist destination with so much charm, and it’s known for being one of Ontario’s best seasonal “dressed up” villages during events like Halloween — but in my opinion, this town feels magical all year round.

The historic downtown is filled with countless little shops, cafés, and restaurants, and you can truly take photos in front of almost any building and it will look beautiful. The stone streets, old architecture, and cozy small-town vibe make it such an easy place to photograph. And of course, the iconic Elora Mill and bridge add that rustic, romantic look that feels straight out of a storybook.

But what I truly enjoy most is the Elora Gorge Conservation Area. It’s a stunning conservation area just a short distance from downtown and the scenery there is absolutely unreal. The first time I saw the massive stone cliffs and dramatic landscape, I honestly couldn’t believe I was still in Canada — it looked like something you’d find in an exotic canyon destination in some exotic country.

One of the most breathtaking views in the gorge is the spot where you can see the beautiful historical bridge in the background. There are also large stones in the water, which makes it possible to position your couple on the rocks while capturing the gorge and bridge behind them — it creates such a cinematic scene.

Important tip: if you plan to go down closer to the gorge, the path can be uneven and rocky, so comfortable shoes are a must. And depending on conditions like rain, ice, or snow, some areas can become slippery and may even be temporarily closed for safety.

Elora is one of those rare places where you can get charming downtown shots and dramatic nature scenery all in one session — making it one of my top photo destinations in Southern Ontario.

4. AMO Estate Winery

Private Venue – Fee Applies $$$

AMO Estate Winery is the definition of luxury. The moment you arrive, everything feels elevated, modern, and intentionally designed. The black and gold interior details are especially my favourite — it’s bold, stylish, and gives such a high-end editorial feel in photos.

Inside, the space feels like a refined lounge experience. The design is sleek, elegant, and sophisticated, with rich textures and a cozy upscale atmosphere that makes the whole location feel exclusive and polished. It’s the kind of place where every corner looks curated — perfect for couples or branding sessions that want a more luxury vibe.

One of the standout design features is the unique shaped windows, which add a dramatic architectural touch and make the space feel modern and artistic.

Outside, the property offers even more variety. You can shoot between the vine rows, which create beautiful leading lines and that classic winery look everyone loves. There are also spots near the pond with open views of the vineyard, giving you romantic scenery and peaceful nature without losing that upscale estate feel.

Another amazing bonus is that AMO offers a photoshoot permit option, which includes a beautiful bottle from AMO, plus stunning appetizers — which makes the experience feel like a luxury date night and a photo session all in one.

AMO Estate Winery is perfect if you want photos that feel elegant, modern, and elevated — with a luxury atmosphere that truly stands out from typical outdoor locations.

5. Erin Estate (Forest Wedding Venue with Castle Vibes)

Private Venue – Fee Applies $$$

Not many people realize that Erin Estate is not only a wedding venue — it’s also an event space, and you can even rent it for a photoshoot. And honestly… it’s one of those places that impresses me every single time I step inside.

This venue feels like a hidden escape tucked into the forest. The property is huge and surrounded by trees, which instantly gives you that peaceful, fairytale feeling — like you’re stepping away from the busy world and into your own private storybook setting.

The main house has so many elegant, almost castle-like elements, especially indoors. The architecture, the layout, and the details throughout the space feel grand and timeless. I can totally imagine how a bride must feel getting ready here — like a queen preparing for the biggest day of her life.

One of the most iconic features is their Great Hall, which is known for its warm, dramatic atmosphere and elevated design. It’s the kind of space that feels cozy and intimate, but still luxurious and impressive — perfect for elegant portraits and wedding-day storytelling images.

Outside, the venue is just as stunning. With forest paths, open lawn space, and endless natural backdrops, Erin Estate gives you so much variety without needing to travel anywhere else on the day. It’s the perfect mix of nature, romance, and refined elegance.

If you want a location that feels like a forest fairytale with a touch of castle charm, Erin Estate is one of the most unique photo destinations in Southern Ontario.

Important Note About Permits

Some of the locations on this list require a photoshoot permit or booking fee, especially wedding venues and private estates. Always check with the venue in advance so your session is properly booked and approved.
