Engagement Photos at Hamilton Princess Point
A Sunset Love Story with Madelaine & Nicholas
Some places instantly feel magical the moment you arrive. Princess Point is exactly one of those places.
Madelaine and Nicholas suggested this location for their engagement photos and I immediately understood why. After spending an evening there together, it quickly became one of my favourite photo locations in Hamilton.
Their session took place in the fall, when the forest was glowing with golden leaves and warm sunset colours. Golden light filtered through the trees, the water reflected the sky, and the quiet trails created the perfect setting for capturing natural moments between two people deeply in love.
Why Couples Choose Princess Point for Engagement Photos
One of the things I often tell couples is that engagement photos feel most meaningful when they happen somewhere personal.
Traditionally, couples choose a place connected to their story — where they had their first date, their first kiss, where the proposal happened, they love spending time together, or simply a place what feels like your love story.
For Madelaine and Nicholas, Princess Point was exactly that kind of place.
They had visited this trail many times before, walking together and enjoying the peaceful nature near the water. Choosing this location made their engagement session feel relaxed and personal right from the start.
And honestly, locations that hold memories always lead to the most genuine photos.
The Perfect Circular Trail for a Photoshoot
One thing I really love about Princess Point as a photographer is that the trail forms a natural circle. We start and finish right at the parking lot, which makes the session feel like a relaxed walk through nature rather than a structured photoshoot.
I like to walk the trail counter-clockwise, starting deep in the forest where the trees grow tall and the light filters softly through the leaves. In the fall, the golden foliage creates an incredible atmosphere — warm, glowing, and cinematic.
Along the way, we pass a small wooden bridge that almost feels tropical with the lush greenery surrounding it. It’s one of my favourite little hidden photo spots along the trail.
As we continue walking, we reach several lookout points with beautiful views across the water of Cootes Paradise, part of the protected lands of the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Chasing the Golden Light
Timing is everything when photographing outdoors.
As the sun slowly moves lower toward the horizon, the light becomes softer and warmer — the perfect moment for romantic photos. That’s when we begin walking around the small peninsula, following the water’s edge.
We stop at different viewpoints along the way — and each one feels like a new scene due to change of sun engle. The landscape constantly changes: tall grasses moving in the breeze, reflections in the marsh, wide skies glowing with sunset colours.
Nature everywhere.
By the time we reach the final stop just before returning to the parking lot, the evening lights begin to appear across the water. In the distance, you can even see a passing train and the glow of the city on the other side. It’s a quiet, cinematic ending to the walk.
A Place With Thousands of Years of History
Princess Point is not only beautiful — it’s also historically significant.
Archaeologists discovered that Indigenous communities lived and gathered in this area more than a thousand years ago. In fact, the early agricultural culture identified here is now known as the Princess Point Complex, dating back to around 800–1000 AD.
The wetlands and waterways of Cootes Paradise made it an ideal place for fishing, gathering food, and community life. Today, the surrounding lands are preserved as part of the Royal Botanical Gardens, protecting thousands of acres of natural ecosystems filled with wildlife and scenic trails.
It’s incredible to think that a peaceful evening walk here connects us to such a deep human history.
Capturing Natural Moments
Madelaine and Nicholas were such a fun couple to photograph. There was so much laughter during the session — playful teasing, spontaneous smiles, and little moments of connection that happened naturally.
While I guide couples into flattering positions so they feel comfortable in front of the camera, I always leave space for real moments to happen in between.
Some of my favourite photos are captured between poses — when couples forget about the camera and simply enjoy being together.
That’s where the magic happens.
With Madelaine and Nicholas, their bond and real love were impossible to miss, and those genuine moments created images that feel alive.
One of My Favourite Hamilton Photo Locations
After this session, Princess Point truly became one of my favourite engagement photo locations in Hamilton.
It offers everything I look for as a photographer:
• forest trails
• peaceful water views
• beautiful bridges and lookouts
• perfect golden hour light
• quiet spaces surrounded by nature
• variety of looks
For couples who love the outdoors, it’s one of the most beautiful places for engagement photos in the Hamilton area.
And when the location already holds meaning in your story — like it did for Madelaine and Nicholas — the photos become even more special.
